Dear Frankfort Residents

National Treasury compiled a Financial Recovery Plan for the Mafube Local Municipality labelled “FINANCIAL RECOVERY PLAN: STATUS QUO ASSESSMENT Prepared for the Mafube Local Municipality May 2023”

Rural Maintenance however found in the National Treasury assessment a number of factual inaccuracies in regards to the “electricity business” along with unfounded and malicious commentary based on faulty assumptions and incorrect information.

It is to be noted that National Treasury did not engage Rural Maintenance at any time to clarify or obtain substantiating information prior to publishing their assessment. This in spite of Rural meeting with National Treasury on 15 February 2023 and providing them with information that is referred to in their assessment.

On Friday 9 June 2023 Rural submitted via email to National Treasury a detailed response under the following headings supplying factual information in regards to the events prior to Rural being appointed along with supporting information to correct Treasury’s wrong assumptions and incorrect information. The hard copies were also delivered to their offices in Pretoria on Monday 12 June.
